A feature of the PLC BUS is unfortunately too often misunderstood!

What is a scene address?
What is the scene module?

So that this misleading label not more confused, I would give both a new name.

scene address => group address
scene module => macro module or sensor module with command list

group address (scene address)
A feature of the PLC BUS is that each module not only has a main address, with which it can target, but also up to 16 group addresses (scene addresses).
The main address can only be awarded once within a system.
However, a group address can be assigned at once to several modules.
In sum, a module can listen to up to 17 different addresses.
Or in other words, a module has its individual address and can become a member of 16 different groups.
All group members are controlled by there group address with only one command.
So you can for example a lights-group turn on/off or a shutter-group running up/down by a group address with a single command.
The group addresses allow the PLC BUS with a small bandwidth an effective control.

macro module (scene module)
The macro module would in classical control technology also called sensor module with command list.
The macro module has 4 digital inputs that sending PLC BUS as soon as one of the inputs is switched. All 4 inputs are independent from each other and can send different PLC BUS commands.
“macro” means, that each input not only can send a command, but also execute a command list. This command list can contain up to 16 different PLC BUS commands, which execute one after the other.
Because of the bandwidth limit of the PLC BUS, with a macro module you should not address any lamp with its main address; better also use a group address.
It is useful to use only reverse group commands with a macro module.
e.g. shutter-group (2 shutters) shut down (group OFF) and turn on lights-group (3 lights) (group ON).
That would be for example 2 group commands against 5 single commands.
The more participants in a group, so much more efficient the group command.

Thanks for the insight, but a small question:
What happens in the ACK level when you send a command to a group with multiple micro modules listening?
Will you get X acks one for each module in the group?

When you send a ON command to a scene you will get no ACK!

Hello,
Just read the previous post regarding scene address.
How exactly does one program a Module to answer to a group address ?
Can it be done without physical access to the module (ie : by sending a specific command) ?

When a module has a main address you can setup module without physical access to the module.
There are PLC-BUS commands for setting scene address, delete scene address even change main address.
